Oberlin-Funeral services for James Clegg Chaumont, Jr., 76, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church of Oberlin. Rev. Jacob Connor will officiate. Burial will follow in Oberlin Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017, with the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Clegg was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was a devoted husband to Tootie for 40 years. He was a lifelong resident of Oberlin and a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. James was employed and retired from the FSA Office after 33 years of service. He also was the Town of Oberlin Superintendent. He was a Board Member of Allen Golf and Country Club having worked on the design and building and directed the installation of East Allen Water Works irrigation project. He also assisted Oberlin Cemetery with interments. He coached the Dixie Youth Baseball for many years and help design and build the new complex. A field was dedicated in his name. Clegg enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a friend to all who knew him. His faithful service to his community and town will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish Clegg’s memory include his wife, JoEllen (Tootie) Chaumont; two sons, Nicky Chaumont and Tre’ Chaumont; three daughters, Jody Tilley, Pam Chaumont, and Jaydene Chaumont; three sisters, Loretta Doise, Judy Foresman, and Chyralan Hebert; eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Clegg is preceded in death by his parents, James Clegg and Etta Chaumont; one son, Timmy (Tim) Chaumont; one brother, Maxwell Chaumont; and one sister, Claudette Floyd.
