Oakdale-Funeral service for Lydia Bernice Kingan, 75, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at First United Pentecostal Church of Oakdale. Rev. Tim Kelley and Rev. L. E. Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow in Hill Mathis Cemetery in Pitkin under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at First United Pentecostal Church of Oakdale from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016. Visitation will resume at the church on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Bernice was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was on the city council in Elizabeth for five years and was also an employee for Counsel on Aging for several years. She attended the First United Pentecostal Church of Oakdale. She was so soft spoken. She would help anyone out no matter the need. Bernice will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Bernice’s memory include her three sons, Danny Kingan and wife, Rosie, of Pitkin, Randy Kingan and wife, Rachelle, of Oakdale and Raymond Kingan “Becky Murphy” of Elizabeth; one daughter, Candy Kingan Brady of Lake Charles; one brother, Eugene McCollough; five sisters, Juanita Sweat, Yvonne Mendoza, Betty West, Jeanice Lambright, and Norma Jinks; ten grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, Madroe and Irma Scroggs McCollough; and her husband, Ira Cecil Kingan.
