Oberlin-Funeral services for Carol Fontenot Deshotel, 83, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob Conner will officiate. Visiting clergy are asked to wear black vestments if they wish to vest for the mass (violet will suffice in the absence of black.) The clergy should also feel at liberty to attend in cassock and surplice. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Soileau under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home from 4-10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 with the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Herman, for 64 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Carol was a member of Ladies Alter Society and a Cursillista for twenty plus years. She loved to plant flowers, do yard work, and cook and bake for her family. Carol loved spending time with her family as well as dancing to Cajun music. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish Carol’s memory include her husband, Herman Deshotel of Oberlin; two sons, Deacon Dale Deshotel and wife, Katherine, of Oberlin, and John Wilvan Deshotel of Oberlin; four daughters, Phylis Deshotel Naquin and husband, Jessie, of Scott, Florence Deshotel Vidrine and husband, Wendell, of Oberlin, Carla Deshotel Moreau of Oberlin, and Corinne Deshotel Granger and husband, Kenneth, of Oberlin; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Hadley and Adia Fontenot; and two sons, Anthony Curtis Deshotel and Michael Keith Deshotel.
