Charles was a simple man who leaned towards the older ways. Once you knew him and got past his tough outer shell, you discovered a heart of gold. He loved his family and adored his children and his wife. He will be remembered for many things, but cooking was his passion. He had a favorite saying, “If you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault.” He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and talking about the old days. The well-being of his family was the most important thing to him. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on.
Those left to cherish Charles’ memory include his wife, Doreen Matte Chapman, of Oberlin; three sons, Chad Eric Chapman and wife, Elizabeth, of Natchitoches, David Alan Chapman and wife, Melanie, of Grant, and Daniel Gene Chapman of Kinder; two daughters, Christie Joy Chapman of Kinder, and Kelsey Ardoin of Oberlin; one brother, Robert Sonnier of Lake Charles; 10 grandchildren-Chad, Austin, Nicholas, Kaleigh, Madden, Mia, Kora, Lucas, Trey, Trace; and, 6 great grandchildren.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Zeb and Pearl Sonnier, and one brother, Joseph Chapman.
