A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for D.C. Reed, Jr., age 78, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob S. Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home, 119 S. 7th Street, Oberlin on Monday, May 2, 2016 from 4-9 p.m. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.
D.C. was a native of Oberlin and lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. D.C. was a 30-year educator in Allen Parish serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. In 2004, he was inducted into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame for his administrative service on their Executive Committee. D.C. was an avid Oberlin Tiger fan and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish D.C.’s memory include his wife, Sarah Reed, of Oberlin; two sons, Chuck Reed and wife, Yvonne, of The Woodlands, TX, and Kent Reed and wife, Alison, of Kinder; two daughters, Tracey Odom and husband, John, of Kinder, and Stephanie Ashy and husband, Ricky, of Louisville, KY; one brother, Ray Reed and wife, Lynda, of Long Beach, MS; one sister, Joan Landry of Westlake; and 15 grandchildren-Marty Reed, Justin Reed and wife, Karli, Stephen Reed, Reed Ashy, Wesley Reed, Meredith Ashy, Catherine Reed, Jack Odom, Jacob Reed, Sarah Ashy, Ian Odom, Brandon Reed, Luke Ashy, Will Ashy, and Jordyn Reed.
D.C. is preceded in death by his parents, Deius and Laura Reed; two brothers, Andrew and Russell Reed; and two sisters, Dorothy Brady and Edith Sonnier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in D.C.’s memory to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church or Inspiration Ranch, which has been instrumental in providing horse riding therapy for his autistic grandchildren.
