Oberlin-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for John Essie Victorian, 86, at 12 noon Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob S. Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home-Oberlin Chapel.

The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home, 119 S. 7th Street, Oberlin on Friday, March 18, 2016, from 5-9 p.m. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

John was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, godfather, and uncle who worked hard as a farmer to provide for his family. He was a lifelong resident of Soileau. He enjoyed socializing with people and enjoyed watching television, especially wrestling and Red Foxx. He also enjoyed cooking. John loved spending time with his family and was very good with genealogy, not only his family but also everyone else’s. He was a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish John’s memory include his wife, Laura Lee Papion Victorian; his five sons, Jerome and wife, Barbara, of Mamou, John and wife, Margaret, of Kinder, Joseph Brown and wife, Charlene, of Church Point, Christopher Sowells and wife, Amber, of Kinder, and Raymond Brown of Kinder; his seven daughters, Joyce Captain and husband, Oscar, of Dallas, TX, Delorcy Richard and husband, Wade, of Lake Charles, Magdalene Gradney and husband, Chuck, of Lawtell, Laura Brown and husband, Kevin, of Atlanta, GA, Cassandra Fontenot and husband, Stacey, of Carencro, Crystal Sowells and husband, Ronald, of Church Point, and Crissey Sowells of Baton Rouge; his sisters, Katherine Popillion of Soileau, Philomen Goodley of Soileau, Olivia Cezar of Soileau, Rosa Mae Gradney of Lake Charles, Annie Metoyer of Lake Charles, and Elsie Frank of Soileau; 37 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Armosa Victorian; his brother, Arson Victorian; and his sisters, Mable Victorian, Louvenia Delafosse, Rose Frank, and Jewel Goodley.
