Oberlin-Funeral service for Mary Frances “Fran” Meaux, 65, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Rev. Jacob Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery under the direction of Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.

The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home from 3-9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 with the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service with the Holy Rosary being prayed again at 9 a.m.

Fran was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was devoted to her husband Ronald for 45 years. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Fran was a dedicated educator at Oberlin Elementary School where she taught for 33 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Fran was a member of Ladys’ Alter Society and was a member of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. She was a 15 year breast cancer survivor and battled neuroendocrine cancer for 10 years. The family would like to express a sincere thanks to Dr. Yao and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Michael Broussard and Chemo-Bay at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Thrive Physical Therapy, and Brighton Bridge Hospice for all of their care and support. Fran was the example of how to carry your cross with dignity and grace.

Those left to cherish Fran’s memory include her husband, Ronald Meaux of Oberlin; one son, Chad Meaux and wife, Hanna, of Oberlin; two daughters, Laura Zaidan and husband, Dr. Fred Zaidan, of Edinburg, TX; Jessica Read and husband, Maj. Ashton Read of Fort Irwin, CA; two brothers, Michael Sonnier and wife, Judy, of Oberlin; Donald Paul Sonnier and wife, Jackie, of Lafayette; one sister, Diane Harrington and husband, Billy, of Oakdale; 8 grandchildren, Haylee, Joey, Freddie, Riddick, Mary Frances, Andy, Conner, and Landon.
Fran is preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Edith Sonnier.
